Cyprus Personal Income Tax Return 2024 (IR1)

Cyprus Personal Income Tax Return 2024 IR1

On 30 April 2025, the Tax Department of Cyprus announced that the Individual’s Personal Income Tax Return for the tax year 2024 (Form I.R.1) is now accessible for electronic submission via the official TaxisNet online platform.

This tax return applies to a broad group of taxpayers including employees, pensioners, as well as self-employed individuals whose gross annual turnover exceeds €19,500.

Why do you need to file IR1 in Cyprus?

  • All tax resident in Cyprus must file a personal income tax return (Article 5 of the Income Tax Law);
  • To obtain documents from the tax department such as: TRC certificate. Income tax submission is necessary in order to maintain your tax residency each year;
  • Also, banks usually request it for loans and due diligence reasons.

Employees, pensioners and self-employed individuals without Financial Statements, whose gross total income exceeds the amount of €19,500 are also subject to the obligation to submit a personal income tax return.

Cyprus Extends Deadline for Submission and Payment of 2024 Personal Income Tax Returns

Initially, the deadline for submitting these tax returns and for settling any tax liabilities was set for 31 July 2025. However, recognising the administrative burden faced by many taxpayers, especially those who do not have to prepare full accounts or undergo audits, the Council of Ministers has approved Decree 176/2025. This decree, published officially on 20 June 2025, extends both the filing and payment deadlines to 30 September 2025 for:

  • Individuals who are not self-employed, and
  • Self-employed persons not obliged to prepare audited or reviewed accounts.

This extension provides taxpayers with additional time to accurately prepare their returns and ensure compliance without unnecessary pressure. It is especially beneficial for those managing their own tax affairs without the support of a professional accountant.

Taxpayers are encouraged to take advantage of this extension by filing their returns via the TaxisNet platform, a user-friendly online service designed to simplify the tax submission process.
