Following registration, a company may change its name provided that the proposed name is not too similar to the name of an already existing business entity or misleading or undesirable.
Before applying for a name, a search of the proposed name must be conducted.
In the case where your proposed company name is similar to the name of an already existing business entity, the proposed name can be examined only if together with your application for approval of the proposed name, you also submit relevant consent from the existing registered business entity to use the said name.
A change of a company’s name is often used when a shelf company is bought.
Once the name of the company has legally changed it is important to notify all parties involved with the company, the following list is not exhaustive and should be adjusted in accordance with the particulars of your company:

Provided that the Registrar of Companies is satisfied that all, relevant to the circumstances, legal requirements have been met he will proceed with, registering the change of name, updating the companies register, issuing the certificate of change of name and making the relevant publication in the government’s gazette.
If a company requires proof of the change made in the companies register, it may request to obtain certified copies of the change.
